This is a great tool for a journalism class that creates content for social media. Using the functions within this program/app students are able to easily discuss and apply design and image elements.

I enjoyed sending students to a place where resources were present. It saved time so students could focus on content and design elements. Some students felt stifled by being within a site when they had already created social media content in their own life.

Good tool for discussing visual texts and image elements.

This is a good introduction to ideas for the unit, and helps students with some self-guided research of the different layouts available to them as technology users and consumers. My use of it as an example / discussion tool is limited though -- I really didn't have students use a wide variety of the possible applications. My course discusses different features of media and how they are used effectively, but We are not routinely engaged in creating media. For other IB Lang&Lit teachers, this may be an interesting tool if a student wanted to work with social media as part of Written Task One or the Further Oral Activity

Allows students to make great visual representations of their learning in the classroom!

I like Canva as a teaching tool. It's a great way for students to learn about layout and design, while working in knowledge they want to share about various topics they're studying in class. I wish that many of the elements didn't come with a fee, but I think that enough of their templates/illustration/shapes/lines etc. are accessible without cost to create a nice looking product in the end.

Love Canva!

Canva is a great tool for older students looking to create. There are hundreds of templates, including storyboard and poster tools. I would recommend it for students 10 and up, who have some prior experience with editing photos. I am surprised that it is completely free, considering how awesome the graphics are! Canva will help me create tools and visuals as a teacher and will allow my students to produce their own visuals in collaborative groups.

Canva: An Easy to Use Website Dedicated to Making the World More Beautiful

I think that Canva is great in the classroom. My only complaint is that students have to create an username and password. For my district, this means that I cannot require students to use this website. Students can find it on their own and use it, but I cannot lead them that way. Also, not all the templates are free. There are still hundreds to pick from, but sometimes I find something really neat, then look to see it cost money so I have to either pay or find something new. One thing I really like about Canva is that it automatically saves what you are working on. There is also a collaboration option, however this is a leveled up membership, meaning it does cost a small fee. My students have found great success with Canva and often get compliments from business professionals on what they have created for their competitive projects. I also like you can upload your own images into Canva. This allows you a little more freedom to make your own personalized creations. My students LOVE Canva and use it all the time. In fact by the end of the year they were asking if they could make Canva’s for me. Nearly everything in my room is now a Canva of some kind. I even had students craft their own graduation invites on the site. It is a great website for marketing students. I have seen nothing that compares. For now, I will continue to hope that my students tell each other about this great resource and that they keep creating!

Help students become graphic designers with their work with little hassle!

This takes the design away from students and allows them to really focus on what information they want to share. It can be tricky when they select a design with not enough space for text, but it has every option to add more. It offers students a way to make professional products without really having to know design concepts, which is (and should be) a class on its own.

Creative, Professional Looking Graphics

Overall, I love this tool for graphic design for teachers and students. I do not have a graphic arts background and Canva makes it easy to create beautiful posters, social media posts, and more. In the classroom, I like that this is a universal tool that can be used across several content areas. I have heard from several teachers that the app can be buggy and crash at times; because of this I have used the web interface more. Sometimes it does run slowly! That would be my only improvement!

Excellent tool for promoting creativity

Beside the ipad version of Canva's templates (free or paid) issue, Canva is a must for all educators who are given their first steps into edtech. It's a great tool for introducing design and creativity projects for teachers and students.
