At first glance, you may consider Quizalize for summative assessments or study time, but this multitasking tool can support a wide range of classroom activities. Use it as a pre-assessment tool before a unit to see which students need enrichment and which need intervention. Quizalize lets you assign more than questions to students. You can assign websites, PDFs, and YouTube videos, either as stand-alone tasks or as follow-up to a quiz. You can even differentiate which students get additional assignments based on their quiz performance.
Like all quiz platforms, Quizalize can be used for formative assessment: Check for understanding and determine how to proceed with instruction in the middle of lessons and units. Beyond quizzes, use it to create surveys to get student opinions or as a self-reflection tool. Mix and match between nine question types including multiple choice, word scramble, grouping, checkbox, and typed answer. If you choose, you can attach a game to a quiz. Group games are high-energy competitions that reward speed. Individual games give students an arcade-style experience, where a correct answer earns them seconds or tokens.
Students access quizzes by connecting with a code, Quizalize account, email, or their school Microsoft or Google account. The code connects to a class set, not a single quiz, so students can choose from multiple live quizzes on the same screen.
Depending on how the quiz is set up, students can receive hints and explanations as they work through the questions. After the quiz, students see their score along with a list of all questions, their answers, and correct answers. Students are prompted to retake the quiz if they missed any questions.

The AI quiz generator works pretty well, especially if you are willing to tweak the questions by adding multimedia and mixing up the response types. The feature enabling you to import from Google Forms also works well, so if you already have a lot of straightforward assessments in your Google Classroom, you can jazz them up with Quizalize with minimal effort. The data analysis is really useful, easy to read, and easy to export or sync to your gradebook. It's nice that all of the various state learning standards and many international standards are built in to the program, not just Common Core. You need a paid account to really utilize the well-designed reporting features.
The add-on games may be a distraction and do not always have clear instructions, but students will probably enjoy the mini breaks they provide as they progress through the assessment. The group games emphasize speed, which may not fit all learning environments. However, the game elements are completely optional; even if a teacher turns on gameplay, students can completely ignore the gameplay and it doesn't affect their quiz score. Unlike some other quiz platforms, students cannot create their own quizzes.
